COVID-19: Our policies

The new coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to affect us all across the world, and UniCarriers is no exception.

In times like these, the safety and wellbeing of our staff, customers and partners is of the utmost importance. That’s why we have taken a number of measures in our offices and factories across Europe to ensure that business can run as normally as possible without people being in danger of infection.

In our offices

Due to the nature of our business, it’s not possible for all of our employees to work remotely. However, it is an option for all office-based staff, subject to approval from managers.

For these employees, physical meetings are being kept to an absolute minimum – instead, they are being held digitally, without participants physically gathering in meeting rooms. Other kinds of events that may require physical meetings, such as training sessions, have all been postponed until further notice. Staff are also being encouraged to wash their hands frequently and stay away from work if they feel ill.

External visits to our premises are also being avoided as much as possible – for those external guests who would like to visit us, meetings can be held digitally, or postponed for the future.

Business trips, both within and outside the country, are also being kept to an absolute minimum, and risk assessments are being carried out where travel is absolutely necessary. Travel for external events such as supplier visits or trade fairs has been cancelled until further notice.

External visits by sales/service staff

Rules surrounding visits by UniCarriers employees to external partners – for example, by salespeople or service engineers – have also changed. UniCarriers will comply with external partners’ policies regarding visits to their premises, and in cases of essential service visits, risk assessments and preventions will be carried out together with our customers before the visit.

In our factories

Our production facilities have also introduced new measures to reduce the threat of infection. Unnecessary physical meetings have been reduced, and external visits other than material deliveries or urgent service visits are no longer allowed.

It is possible in future that larger numbers of production staff will be absent from work due to illness. However, we are prepared to reallocate our resources where they are needed most to ensure that production continues. Currently, our biggest production issue related to coronavirus is not staff absence, but with delivery of finished trucks to customers in countries where businesses have been temporarily shut down.

In all areas of our business – in offices, factories and amongst service and sales staff – we are continuing to follow the decisions of local health authorities and will continue to adapt our internal policies as these decisions change. Continuous internal follow-up meetings are also being held at all levels so that we can deal with issues relating to coronavirus as they appear.
